Introducing Indian Startup “RailRestro”: Food delivery in train

RailRestro provides online food in train at more than 300 railway stations in India direct from the restaurant at your seat.

Founder

The 30-year-old, Manish Chandra is the co-founder, and director of Rail Restro whose company became an authorized e-catering service partner of IRCTC in 2017 and is currently their biggest food aggregator available through an app, website, and a call. Through its network of vendors and partnerships with restaurants within 5km radius of selected stations, Manish Chandra has built a SwiggyZomato like food delivery model for train passengers craving food beyond chai, samosas and bread pakoras on railway platforms.

Founded in Sep 17, 2015,it has more than 2000 affiliated restaurants across the country to deliver healthy, hygienic, and fresh food. It claims to have served more than 50 lakh meals on the trains. 

Vision & Mission

Rail Restro is looking out for more vendor and restaurant tie-ups, ensuring more diversity in cuisines, adding more stations and stops, and enlarging its delivery fleet. He is currently working with 2,100-plus vendors. Rail Restro wants to cover 100 more stations with company delivery staff this year.

Before COVID-19, I was serving 5,000 to 6,000 meals a day. But looking at the interest now, I am pretty sure I will be selling 10,000 to 20,000 meals by April.I want people to be able to order food from RailRestro after a stop of every 30 minutes,” says Chandra. He is currently working with 2,100-plus vendors. 

Recent News And Activity

RailRestro has laid down strict guidelines which include thermal scanning of the restaurant’s staff and delivery personnel several times during the operational hours, sanitization of kitchens daily at regular intervals, use of protective face masks or face shields by restaurant staff and the delivery personnel and permission to prepare food only if the body temperature is below 99oF.

The delivery staff collects orders only after washing hands, mandatory use of ‘Aarogya Setu’ app by delivery personnel, contactless delivery to ensure zero human contact, constant use of protective face masks or covers and sanitization of delivery bags after each delivery, RailRestro claimed.
